Hallo Readers,
This week, an Australian MP called Helen Haines was mown down by a car in her constituency in the state of Victoria. The driver rammed her against a car, and then reversed and rammed her again. Haines survived, but both her legs had to be amputated. Shocking as this was, it came as no surprise to other Australian MPs who have been receiving death threats – over 1,000 this year alone. Female MPs have been threatened with sexual violence, a Jewish MP’s office was fire-bombed, other politicians’ offices have been vandalised, and only last week the Small Business Minister, Anne Aly, received a wave of death threats after a member of the opposition party said that she should be “shamed and stoned in the square”. Why? Because she had supported a tax policy which the other side did not agree with. The reference to her being “stoned in the square” was clearly related to the fact that she is a Muslim.
Here in the UK, four MPs or former MPs have been murdered in the last decade, most recently Ann Widdecombe. Female MPs are routinely harrassed, and MPs male and female are showered with death threats. The way in which some politicians themselves use language about those of different political or religious beliefs, and the vile parroting of similar beliefs on social media, has made being in public life very dangerous. But the social media operators grow ever richer by manipulating the algorithms to ensure that people are bombarded with violent shit until it becomes normalised.
The US is the high watermark of disgusting and dishonest rhetoric, and unlike Australia and the UK, the US is a place with more guns than people and a First Amendment which enables anybody to say anything about anyone with impunity. This week alone, the US President called a Muslim senatorial candidate “A jihadist who hates our country”, the Vice President implied that another senatorial candidate is both gay and a paedophile, and the White House Communications Department put out a tweet describing a journalist as “a Mongoloid moron” for the heinous offence of asking the Rancid Kumquat a question he did not like about a new whistleblowers’ hotline. There is no bottom with these people. Only yesterday, the President tweeted that the Democratic candidate for Governor of Ohio, was “a defective, dishonest and incapable candidate” and “a DISASTER who uncontrollably lies, cheats, and steals!”. The candidate in question, Dr Amy Acton, was raped by her stepfather when she was 12 years old. A Grand Jury indicted him, but her mother sided with her husband, despite knowing that his own daughter had also accused him of rape. Acton and her younger brother were taken into care and then went to live with their father, while her mother and stepfather skipped across State lines and never returned. Mother and daughter have not spoken for nearly 50 years, but that did not stop Acton’s disgusting opponent, Vivek Ramaswamy, from putting out TV ads featuring Acton’s mother calling her daughter a liar who was unfit for office. So a woman is raped as a child and then, in effect, raped all over again by the President, the Vice President, the would-be GOP Governor, and a slew of rabid, ill-informed commentators on social media. Just like the Welsh mining village of Aberfan 60 years ago this week, a torrent of slurry is engulfing us all and no one seems to be able to a damn thing to stop it.
********************************************************************************
We start our review of the week’s vile vestments in New York for the afterparty of the Victoria’s Secrets Show, which included Kylie Jenner, one of the Kardashian Klan, wearing a $50 million diamond bra on the catwalk. Anyway, we are not bothering with her. Instead, here is model Irina Shayk, wearing not much.
Aaaaaarrrrrgggghhh! Yes, she has an fabulous body, but WTF hates a see-through trouser almost above all things, and they do not get much more see-through than this pair, worn over a tiny thong and baring the inevitable arsecheeks.
We move to Los Angeles for the InStyle Imagemaker Awards event, and our old friend, presenter, former model and celebritee, Heidi Klum, wearing Dreaming Ella.
What next? How about someone dressed as Anna Karenina (another spoiler alert!) after she has gone under the train?
Still in Los Angeles, here is actor Alexander Skarsgärd, who is fast becoming a regular in these pages, wearing Chopova Lowena at the US premiere of his new movie, Wicker. The brand is the brainchild of designers Emma Chopova and Laura Lowena, who, according to their website, favour an aesthetic inspired by Bulgarian folklore, 1980s rock climbing and mountaineering, and British punk. Go figure…
WTF aficionado Habibe, who is Bulgarian, was baffled by this photo, and does not recognise any Bulgarian folkloric influences here at all. She was not born in the 1970s or 1980s, but she does not get the punk or rock climber thing either. Nor does WTF. Anyway, Alexander is wearing a top with a picture of Olivia Colman as the character she plays in the movie, a two-tone kilt hanging off a belt with karabina clips, and shoes with brogues. Ridiculous. Being tall, Alexander is probably wearing the midi kilt, which costs £975. He could have had a similar one made to order by Scottish Kilt for £44 for a fraction of the price, although admittedly theirs is polyester.
The rest of our survey comes from the Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles. Up first is actor Ana de Armas, wearing Louis Vuitton.
Clearly, Ana is making a late bid for this year’s Mickey Mouse Award.
This is model Iris Law, the daughter of Jude Law and Sadie Frost, wearing Ann Demuelemeester.
Iris is dressed as the Bride of Chucky, after Chucky got busy with his slasher knife.
Now we have actor Rhea Seehorn wearing Balenciaga. Scroll down slowly….
If a big black bear came from Yellowstone to a gala in LA in a sheet and a tuxedo, this is what it would look like.
Meet actor Inde Navarrette, (nope, me neither), wearing Schiaparelli.
She looks like a diseased mushroom. That is all.
And finally, more Schiaparelli nonsense on actor Teyana Taylor.
Oh FFS. We saw something similar on Zendaya in white for the interminable Odyssey promotion tour, but this is worse. First, the bodice looks like a toilet cistern with moulded tits, which, let’s face it, is alarming. Second, the labial lappage could give her an instant cervical smear if she were to sit down too quickly. And third, although the skirt is really pretty, the minge lining is frightful, and the bottom seems to have been dragged through the mud.
This week’s It’s Got to Go comes from WTF aficionado WTF from Islington, who is very approving of Andy Burnham’s new wheeze in fining passengers, or customers, or whatever they are now called, who subject other passengers, or customers, or whatever they are now called, to blaring music, or to some stupid movie, usually involving people shooting each other with extreme prejudice, or, worse still, having loud conversations, on their speakerphone. The inane conversations are (a) unbelievably loud and (b) unbelievably tedious, usually either in depth discussions about the next meal, and whether to have peas or broccoli, or a blow-by-blow account of their work day. And they are never brain surgeons or sex therapists…..
People are now so desensitised to other people’s feelings that they think nothing of inflicting their shitty choices on everyone else, particularly when stuck together in a tin tube with no means of escape. It is unbearable. Frankly, a fine is too good for them. If she had her way, WTF would put them in the stocks. It’s Got To Go.
OK Readers, that’s your lot for this week. Please keep your comments coming in, and your top suggestions for It’s Got To Go. Let us meet again next week. Be good x
